Understanding Your Medicare Options
Basic Guide to Medicare Parts A, B, C, and D
Medicare Parts A and B comprise Original Medicare. With A and B and most Plan G supplements, you are able to use any doctor or hospital who accepts Medicare. Part D prescription plan coverage is optional, however I do recommend it as there will be a penalty if you have not had creditable drug coverage and need to sign up for it later.
Many Part C plans include a drug plan. They typically require a network and your coverage and deductibles will vary depending on whether you are in or out of network. Most people will still pay the Part B premium, but the plans are managed by private insurance companies.
We strive to help our clients navigate the complexities of Medicare as easily as possible. Our guide provides basic information to help you make informed decisions about your healthcare coverage. Medicare Part A Overview
What Does Medicare Part A Cover?
Medicare Part A, often referred to as hospital insurance, covers inpatient hospital stays, care in a skilled nursing facility, hospice care, and some home health care. It is designed to help cover the costs of essential medical services and supplies that are critical during hospital stays. Beneficiaries typically do not pay a premium for Part A if they or their spouse have paid Medicare taxes for a certain amount of time while working.
Medicare Part A has benefit period deductibles and copays.
Part A may cover some types of home health care if it is deemed medically necessary under certain conditions. Understanding the scope of Part A can help you better plan for potential healthcare needs and associated costs.
Key Benefits of Medicare Part A
Medicare Part B Overview
What Does Medicare Part B Cover?
Medicare Part B is known as medical insurance and covers services like doctor visits, outpatient care, medical supplies, and preventive services. This part of Medicare is essential for covering medically necessary services and preventive measures that help maintain health and detect illnesses early. Unlike Part A, Part B usually requires a monthly premium.

Part B includes coverage for things such as clinical research, ambulance services, durable medical equipment, mental health services, and limited outpatient prescription drugs. It also covers preventive services like screenings, vaccines, and annual wellness visits, which are crucial for early detection and prevention of diseases.
It is important to note that Medicare does not cover all surgeries and services. Preventive care is covered under a timeline, and elective surgeries such as weight loss and facelifts are not covered. Most chiropractic and alternative medical care is not covered either.
Understanding Medicare Part C
Medicare Part C, also known as Medicare Advantage, is an alternative to Original Medicare that may offer additional benefits. These plans are offered by private insurance companies approved by Medicare. Part C plans may include coverage for services not covered by Parts A and B, such as dental, vision, and hearing care. Many Medicare Advantage plans also include prescription drug coverage, combining the benefits of Part D. Additionally, these plans may offer wellness programs and fitness memberships. Choosing a Medicare Advantage plan can provide more comprehensive health coverage, tailored to individual needs. They may include networks and are not available in every area.
Exploring Medicare Part D
Medicare Part D Coverage and Benefits
Medicare Part D is a prescription drug coverage plan that helps beneficiaries manage the cost of their medications. Offered by private insurance companies approved by Medicare, Part D plans cover a wide range of prescription drugs, both generic and brand-name. Each plan has its own formulary, or list of covered drugs, which can vary. Beneficiaries can choose a plan that best fits their medication needs. Part D plans also provide protection against high drug costs through a tiered pricing system and catastrophic coverage. Enrolling in a Part D plan can significantly reduce out-of-pocket expenses for medications, ensuring access to necessary treatments.
